Warning !

Leaking chimney flues can kill

Before you install a solid fuel burning stove or open fire into a property that was built before 1967* then be sure to inspect the chimney, The outside appearance can be deceptive, only by smoke testing the flue ways can you be sure that leakages will not be present and the chimney is sound.

 * After this date UK building regulations required all chimney construction  to incorporate a flue liner

  • Wood burning: Unlined flues should not be used for wood-burning stoves. A major cause of chimney fires is creosote, a tarry byproduct of burning wood. Creosote will build up over time, becoming a hidden danger,  regular cleaning is the only way to avoid chimney fires, if a flue is not been lined then the creosote will penetrate the masonry making sweeping the chimney ineffective

Be safe and warm A sound chimney is a safe chimney
